New Job

It’s been a while since I have posted but I’ve dealing with changes at work and trying to find a full time job. I’ve finally found one. I interviewed over the weekend with Pink Jeep Tours a AZ tour company that takes you around amazon sites in Sedona and Grand Canyon. They were looking for tour guides in their expansion to the valley and I luckily found out about it and applied. I impressed them in the phone screening and both my interviews. I will stay at the zoo for now I just got told I will be getting raptor certified as well as moving up to lead instructor. I think by may depending on this I will have to leave the zoo but we’ll see.

Men Who Built America

Last night Mike and I went to the movies with our friends Brian and Cat. One of the trailers, which isn’t a movie, but a series that History Channel will be airing in a few weeks is Men Who Build America. It will be all about Ford, Venderbuilt, Carnergie, and so on. I’m actually pretty excited about it because I love history and I love it when they do stuff like this.

Second Chance

Looks like my prayers were answered. I was bummed about not getting the park ranger position at work and was hoping that whoever they offered it to wouldn’t take it. Well that’s exactly what happened. Luckily, because I was not checking the job posting at work my friend and co-worker who applied for the position told me that they had the position listed. She then found out that the person they gave it to decline it. Now I am not sure what all that happened, but this means I had to submit another application, no biggie the program actually saved my pervious one and I was able to make some changes and resubmit it.

I am not sure if I will have to be interviewed again or not. I also don’t know what if my friend and I are the only ones who apply. I just don’t know what going to happen, but hopefully whatever it is I end up getting the job. I really wanted it and when I was at work this weekend doing certification for my current job I felt a bit bummed and sad that I was back, but not as a ranger. I got my stuff together and passed, but I was hoping that I could finally move up at work. I think it’s silly if they knew a few days after they made their decision that the guy who got it decline it and they couldn’t take the next best person. I guess they had to repost it and see who applies and go from there.

To give me an extra edge I have enrolled to take a First Aid/CPR/AED course and certification next week. I figured if I have that locked in it could help bummed me up to the top. It should be easy. I use to go through this every few years when I was a lifeguard. I don’t think too much as changed, but I’ll go through the material before hand and see. Should be easy to pass.

Oh I hope I get it this time. I’ve wanted this job for years. I told them that, but left out how I could not move up in my current position and the lack of hours was making me look for employment elsewhere. I’m still not sure I should mention it either other than express wanting to work at the zoo for as long as possible and move up in the department I am seeking employment from.

I’m hoping to hear from them by the end of this week on what’s going to happen next. Keep hoping/praying or whatever else you do that I get it. I need the stable hours and the possible overtime into fulltime.

Another Job Interview

It seems like my luck and finding a better job/career just is difficult. Out of the like 100 applications I have submitted in the last 3 months 4 have resulted in interviews. One I could never make it, another I didn’t get, another I’m trying to find a place to get a lift Assesment done and the last is tomorrow.

I emailed my resume to LUSH this week and got a call a day or two after to come to an hiring party this Sunday/ tomorrow. From what I was told it would be a group interview normal interview questions and other fun stuff. The fun stuff from m research is demo products and show you can sell to people…. I suck at that last part.

I found a website where people can me too. Their experience with businesses and companies and different things like the interview. I will have to get out of my inverted nature when in new situations and really speak up and make myself look good.

I did poorly at my last retail job because they wanted us to push the credit card and I’m not like that. If you tell me no ill leave you alone. I can talk to people easily…. I have to stand and talk to 3-100 adults and children at work all the time and I can do it. I just need to not freak out about it.

I’m sure it’s a whole lot less pay for me and no guarantee of hours but I figured it was with a try. If not I will push forward with TSA

Bummed Out

I have been waiting for a ranger position to open up and work and finally one did. I interviewed today and got a call a bit ago that I did not get it. I feel pretty bummed about it. I keep hoping the person who did get it decides to decline and I’ll get it or another position will open up soon.

That or it just wasn’t meant to be. I don’t know what this person had over me. It my guess is certification in CPR and first aid.

What to Do

School is about to start and I’m clueless to what I am going to do. I have my last history class and I signed up to retake stats. I am still working on getting hired with he TSA and it wi take some time to get through. If I do get it I have training g and orientation to do that would interfere with my history class and my current job.

I could switch over…again to criminal justice because I can do it 100% online while working. History I am not sure I can do that.

I have to get my doctor to do some medical assessment with my previous back pain and whether I can lift 70lbs. I don’t know if the last part my doctor could be able to have me do.

Prepper Seminar

Mike and I attended an emergency preparedness seminar at a local sporting and hunting store. We have been wanting to get into the prepper movement so in case anything happens we are prepared. Living at our patents houses doesn’t help but hopefully we can get our own place to bug in when it does take place.

It was a quick event but there was a few things that spoke to me that I need to do or want to do.

1. I need training in firearms.
2. I need self defense training.
3. Look into raising rabbits for food and money
4. Need to start stocking up on gear, food, and guns
5. Look into filling own bullets, I’m not sure what the actual name of it is called.

I had one more but forgot. There is an expo in Tucson right after we come back to vegas in a few weeks that I think we’ll go to.

Job Possibilities

I have been working with getting a few jobs in law enforcement. One is with TSA I am towards the end of their hiring process and waiting to hear if I have everything approved or not to move onto one of the last steps. I want this job, but with being one class away from graduating with my BA I’m worried that I won’t be able to finish if I take this job. It’s part time, but it has benefits and would be a foot in the door for other law enforcement jobs.

I also got an e-mail that I have been selected to do testing of Police Aide position at my University. It’s first the physical part which is just 1.5 mile walk/run, which shouldn’t be an issue for me. I can do that with no problem. Then if you pass the physical you can do the written which I am not sure about. It’s multiple choice video scenario and a fill in the blank portions. It’s hard to know how to prepare for it. Mt friend who was a police aide and now an officer says there’s no way to prepare for it, but that I should done fine. You have to score a 70% or higher to pass. Then you go through the background, polygraph, psychological and medical. I should do fine, but after not getting the internship at the PD after my background I’m worried now. I’ve done nothing wrong, but I am always going to remember how I did not get to go through and wonder if there’s something that will hold me back.

Just Some Thoughts

To start off with I find it odd when I am left comments about how my content and “articles” are better than most…. This is all personal narrative or ranting. Nothing is here is professional writing. Trust me, I do plenty of writing in school and that stuff is a bit better than this blog, but nothing professional. Half of my posts I don’t even finish. I just leave you hanging with whatever my last thought is.

Oh and I have started a blog about my couch to 5k training called Fallen 5k. Check it out.

I know I have some time to think about it, but I have been going between nursing school vet tech school. Both need chem and bio pre-reqs and a class or two before I can apply to get into the program. With vet tech I don’t think there’s a huge wait list like with the nursing. There might be, but I would assume it would be a semester not several years.

I do have a lot of animal handling experience and I think I would enjoy vet tech more, but I think nurses make more money, which is kind of the down side. With getting my AS in vet tech I could go to U of A and complete a veterinary science degree. I know a  lot of people who have done that.. well one really. I don’t know if I want to go to vet school, but it’s is an option I think if I decide I like it. I have seen a few vet hospitals needing techs, but without the cert or experience I cannot apply or get it. I guess this is where one of my pro vs con list would help.
